Bhutanese Refugee Scam: SC demands additional documents about Prateek Thapa
Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order demanding additional documents regarding Prateek Thapa, an accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
A single bench of SC Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla ordered on Monday to ask for an additional report on the case of Prateek Thapa, the son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.
Prateek had filed an application at the SC against the decisions of the Patan High Court and Kathmandu District Court to detain him for an investigation into the scam.
SC Spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel said an order was issued to seek additional documents after a hearing on the application.
Earlier, police had arrested Prateek on June 29, 2024, for his involvement in the scam. He had filed a case at the Patan High Court challenging the decision after the Kathmandu District Court ordered Thapa’s detention for investigation.
Prateek then filed an application at the SC seeking his release on bail after the High Court upheld the decision of the District Court Kathmandu.
