Government sensitive to safeguard nation’s border: Home Minister Lekhak
Kathmandu: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has said the government is committed to safeguarding the nation’s land and borders.
Stating that it is the responsibility of the State to protect its territory, the Home Minister said the government is taking a sensitive approach towards that end.
In a meeting of the House of Representatives, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee today, the Minister said the government is seeking a diplomatic solution to the issue of farming by Indian citizens on the land belonging to Shuklaphanta’s land in Kanchanpur. The government is aware of the use of Shuklaphanta National Park’s area by Indian citizens.
The government’s serious attention has been drawn to it and talks at the diplomatic level are underway to address the problem, according to the Home Minister. Although there is no border dispute in the area, there is a need for the placement of border pillars and efforts are being made through bilateral mechanisms to install them, he added, reiterating the government’s commitment to protecting the country’s land.
The meeting began with Committee members Raghuji Pant and Dilendra Prasad Badu requesting the Home Minister’s response regarding the uses of land in Shuklaphanta National Park by Indian citizen.
