World Egg Day being marked with week-long awareness programmes
Chitwan, Oct 5: World Egg Day is being observed in Nepal this year with a week-long series of awareness programmes focused on the nutritional and health benefits of egg consumption.
The Nepal Layers’ Poultry Farmers Association has been organising various programmes ahead of World Egg Day, which falls on October 9. This year’s theme is “Protein that Powers and Protects.”
According to Association Central President Binod Pokharel, awareness programmes are being held at schools across the country to inform students and parents about the nutritional value of eggs, their health benefits and their importance as part of a balanced diet.
The programmes are being organised by the Association with support from the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), in collaboration with government and private-sector stakeholders.
An “Egg Walk” will be organised in Chitwan on October 9, beginning at the premises of the Chitwan Industries Association and ending at Shahid Chowk in Narayangarh. The event aims to raise awareness about the nutritional value of eggs and encourage their inclusion in the daily diet.
A panel discussion will also be held the same day, bringing together stakeholders to discuss egg production, nutrition, health, consumption, marketing and the role of eggs in Nepali society.
Physician Dr Bhojraj Adhikari said one egg provides around six grams of high-quality protein along with essential nutrients, including vitamins A, B, and B12. He said egg protein helps build and repair body tissues and muscles and is particularly important for children’s growth and development.
