Speaker Aryal off to Tanzania for IPU Assembly

Kathmandu: Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal left here today for Tanzania, leading a parliamentary delegation to participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

According to the Speaker’s private secretariat, the Nepali delegation includes the Speaker’s Spouse Ambika KC, House of Representatives member Rabin Mahato, and National Assembly members Jhakku Prasad Subedi and Anjan Shakya.

The delegation also includes HoR General Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, Secretary Prakash Adhikari, Joint Secretary Rekha Upadhyay Khanal, and the Speaker’s private secretary Madhu Mijar.

The 153rd IPU Assembly, to be held in the Tanzanian city of Arusha, will take place from October 5 to 9, 2026.

During the visit, Speaker Aryal is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Speakers of different member countries, while an interaction program with the Nepali community in Tanzania is also scheduled.

The General Assembly will also hold a special accountability session regarding the implementation of Inter-Parliamentary Union resolutions and other decisions, and conclude the general debate. The meeting will cover the election of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President, decisions regarding human rights issues concerning parliamentarians, and discussions on reports from various special sessions.

Subsequently, the Assembly session will include the adoption of various resolutions, the presentation of standing committee reports, the approval of the outcome document from the general debate, and the ratification of proposed amendments to the IPU Statutes.

Following the conclusion of the Assembly, the Nepali delegation will depart for Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

An interaction with the Nepali community in Nairobi and visits to Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Centre, and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust are scheduled before the delegation returns home.
