Not wavering from democratic values and principles: RSP President Lamichhane

Kathmandu: President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has said that the RSP will not waver from democratic values and principles.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Nepali Congress 15th General Convention here today, Lamichhane clarified that his party is committed to further strengthening and institutionalizing democratic values and principles.

“I wish to state with full confidence that we will not waver from the values and principles of democracy. We will stand at the forefront to safeguard the changes achieved through the sacrifice, martyrdom, and dedication of the Nepali people by further strengthening the institutions associated with democracy,” he said.

Lamichhane remarked that democracy can be enriched primarily through elections and urged one and all not constantly invoke democracy to claim that you alone are its sole protectors and not act as if you hold an exclusive contract to safeguard it.

Recalling his statement before the Parliament that if two major political parties were to come together without any valid reason, crisis, or clear objective, it would inevitably create a crisis, he said, “That has now proven true; it gave rise to us.”

Clarifying that the government was formed with the inspiration to change history while keeping history itself as a witness, Party President Lamichhane urged everyone to remain at ease, assuring them that there is currently no threat to democracy in the country.

Emphasizing that the Nepali people would stand up to defend democracy should any threat arise from any quarter, President Lamichhane noted that there is a clear path for others to return to power through future elections—by offering constructive support for the nation and the people and thereby earning the public’s trust.

Acknowledging the significant role played by the Nepali Congress in Nepal’s democratic movement, he extended his best wishes for the success of the General Convention of the Congress, the country’s oldest political party.
