NA meeting: Representation sought in special parliamentary panel on Bhotekoshi Disaster

Kathmandu: National Assembly (NA) members have drawn attention of the government on contemporary issues in today’s meeting of the upper house of the federal parliament.

Speaking in the meeting, Khamma Bahadur Khati of the Nepali Congress demanded representation of the National Assembly in the special parliamentary committee formed by the House of Representatives for Bhotekoshi flood disaster management. He stressed that the incumbent government should carry out activities with new concept and style as per the people’s aspirations.

He underlined that the people have expected much from the government, adding the incumbent government should work as per the commitment made before the people. Khati argued that the government has failed to carryout activities as per the people’s aspiration on the issue of good governance and corruption control.

Similarly, Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa asked the government to make supplies smooth during festival, make market monitoring effective and end black marketing. He urged the government to provide relief making supply of daily essentials smooth.

Likewise, Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar urged the government to make clear about the news related to Nepal published in Grayzone Media while Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) demanded the government inform fact and reality about the news of person recommended for the post of Nepali Ambassador to Japan that he is a ‘PR’ holder of Japan.

Nara Bahadur Bista of the Nepali Communist Party emphasized that Prime Minister Balendra Shah should effectively present at the UNGA for climate justice, stating that Bhotekoshi flood had occurred due to climate change.

Mentioning that the issue of self-immolation by a driver at Tripureshwor chowk has raised question about trust towards the state, Puja Chaudhary of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal viewed that this matter is connected with financial and mental problems. She also asked for the formation of a separate committee by the NA as there was no representation of NA in the parliamentary committee formed to make search and relief of Bhotekoshi flood effective.

Other members including Dharmendra Paswan, Shreekrishna Prasad Adhikari, Roshni Meche and Jagat Bahadur Parki also drew government’s attention to forward diplomacy effectively to work in the interest of the country.
