China to continue sharing meteorological information with Nepal

Kathmandu: China has announced that it will continue sharing meteorological and hydrological information with Nepal to support emergency monitoring, search and rescue, and disaster relief efforts.

The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu said the information-sharing assistance is aimed at supporting Nepal’s rescue and relief operations. It includes information on river blockages and risks associated with glacial lakes.

According to the embassy, China’s meteorological authorities have been providing Nepal with weather monitoring, forecasting, early warning and impact assessment services since the massive landslide occurred along the Kerung-Rasuwa border between China and Nepal.

The Chinese authorities said that immediately after disasters, they have also held video consultations with Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on weather-related issues.

They added that China has been actively providing meteorological information and other technical support to Nepal’s rescue and relief operations.
