Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Hilly Areas of Six Provinces

Kathmandu, August 18: Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces today, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The weather agency said moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in most hilly areas and some parts of the Tarai region across the country. Strong winds are also possible in parts of the Tarai in Koshi Province and some areas of Madhes Province.

The monsoon remains active across Nepal, while the monsoon low-pressure belt is currently positioned around its average location in the east and slightly north of its average position in the west, near Nepal.

The prevailing weather system is currently causing rainfall mainly in the western parts of the country. Most parts of Nepal are expected to remain generally cloudy today, while some mountainous areas may receive light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

For tonight, moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is forecast in a few places of Madhes Province. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
