Nepali Students Win Multiple Awards at International AI and Robotics Competition

Nepali students have won multiple awards at an international competition on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and coding held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to organizers, the competition concluded in May and brought together around 1,500 students from more than 70 countries. Six Nepali teams secured awards, while three other teams finished among the top 30.

The Nepali participants showcased innovative projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on issues such as air pollution, water contamination, modern agricultural systems, and drug management.

A total of 98 Nepali students aged between 8 and 18 participated in the event, with their participation facilitated by the Nima Education Foundation, an organization working in the field of information technology.

The Foundation honored the participating students and schools at a program in Kathmandu on Sunday in recognition of their performance.

Speaking at the event, Dr Sudan Jha, Head of the Department of Information Technology at Kathmandu University, said AI, robotics, and coding are gaining importance in Nepal and stressed the need to prioritize IT education in schools.

Foundation officials expressed hope that such initiatives would help strengthen Nepal’s IT sector and develop future global-level talent.
