Government Launches National Cleanliness Week in Offices from Today
Kathmandu, May 11 — The government has launched the National Cleanliness Week campaign from today with the objective of promoting clean and environment-friendly public service delivery across the country.
The campaign has been implemented in all government offices at the federal, provincial, and local levels. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has issued a special directive, calling on all agencies to actively participate in the initiative.
The formal inauguration of the campaign is taking place this morning at Bir Hospital.
According to the Guidelines for the Operation of Cleanliness Week, 2083, the campaign focuses on achieving effective cleanliness standards in government offices with minimum cost and maximum impact.
Under the guidelines, all offices are required to maintain at least two separate dustbins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Proper management of unused and obsolete materials has been made mandatory, while open burning of waste has been strictly prohibited.
To ensure continuity, each office must designate a cleanliness focal person. Agencies are also required to prepare weekly cleanliness schedules and conduct monthly self-assessments.
The responsibility for implementing and monitoring the campaign has been assigned to the heads of respective offices, who are required to maintain regular records of activities carried out under the initiative.
