Locals protest over Yadav’s death in Rajbiraj

Rajbiraj (Saptari), Aug 6: Locals have launched a protest on Wednesday, demanding a fair investigation into the alleged killing of Lalu Yadav in police firing on Tuesday.

Yadav’s relatives and locals had burnt tires before the District Police Office in agitation. The main marketplace remained closed throughout the day today after the protest in the major thoroughfares at Dasan in Rajbiraj. Deputy Superintendent of the Police, Jitendra Kumar Basnet, claimed that Yadav died when police resorted to open fire after locals suddenly started pelting stones at police personnel.

Acting on a tip-off that liquor was being smuggled to India, the police squad had reached there to abort the unlawful act, he further shared. Yadav, 35, who was injured in a gunshot, breathed his last in the course of the treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj.

He was the chairperson of the Basic School Management Committee in his locality. Yadav’s kin and locals blamed the police had deliberately opening fire at Yadav.
