Buddha’s teaching foundation of durable peace: Speaker Ghimire

Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said adherence to Buddha’s teaching creates a solid foundation for sustainable peace in the world, which is facing tension at present.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti today, Speaker Ghimire wished peace, prosperity and happiness to all Nepali sisters and brothers from the Buddhist community who are living in the country and abroad. Nepal is the provenance of the Buddhist religion, which was spread later across the world, he reminded.

“Buddha Jayanti is celebrated on the day commemorating the Lord Buddha’s birth, acquisition of enlightenment and mahaparinirvana. It is a historic day inspiring us for peace, compassion and tolerance,” Speaker Ghimire reminded, adding that millions of people from across the world observe it today.

Buddhism is not a mere religion, but it has close ties to our civilisation, culture, philosophy and tradition in Nepal. “‘Nepal is a land of peace’ emanates from the historic and spiritual concept relating to the Lord Buddha,” he stressed.

According to him, Buddha’s panchasheel directs people, society and nation towards virtuous behaviour. Unity, reconciliation, equality and compassion are founding values of Buddha’s teaching, he stated in the message.

Entire humanity can live in tolerance and coexistence once Buddha’s teachings are abided by, he argued.

Ghimire further wished peace, truth and non-violence prevailed in humanity on this occasion.
