Participants arriving Thame for ‘Summiteers’ Summit’

 

Solukhumbu, April 21: Participants have started arriving in Solukhumbu to participate in the ‘Summiteers’ Summit’ going to be held at Thame in the district on Tuesday.

The Summit, going to be organized by ‘Sathsathai’, an organization working for climate justice, is taken as the pre-event of the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ to be organized by the government from May 16-18. Chairperson of Sathsathai, Prajita Karki, said the team that left for Thame comprises renowned national and international climbers, climate and tourism experts and representatives of three-tier governments.

Another team comprising ministers is scheduled to reach Thame on Tuesday. Mount Everest climber and Qatari crown princess Asma Al Thani, world record holders—Kami Rita Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, and Temba Tsheri Sherpa, among others, would attend the Summit.

Similarly, locals and those affected by the glacier lake outburst that occurred in the Thame area last year would also participate in the Summit. The group-wise discussion will be held on various aspects of climate change, tourism and life in the Himalayas.

The event is going to be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Forests and Environment, the Koshi province government and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality while the Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Mountaineering Association and Nepalese Youth for Climate Action, among others, are co-organizers.
