Nepali caregivers selected for Israel through lottery process

August 29, Kathmandu: As many as 2200 Nepali auxiliary workers in the caregiver sector have been selected to work as caregivers in Israel through a lottery process held on Thursday at the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) office in Jerusalem.

The first 1,000 candidates will be notified immediately for health check-ups, while the remaining candidates will be informed at a later date. This process will be coordinated with Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), according to PIBA.

The selection was carried out using an automated, computer-based lottery system to ensure transparency.

Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder highlighted that those who have gone or will go to Israel will return with resources that will contribute to Nepal’s economy.

In the earlier phase, 1,345 workers were selected and have already departed for Israel. The selected group in this lottery comprises 55% females (1196) and 45% males (1006).

Officials from the Embassy of Israel in Nepal, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and media representatives attended the live broadcast to ensure the fairness of the process.
