Birekhola flood: 23 families displaced, urgent need of food and shelter
Bajura: A flood in the local Birekhola stream displaced 23 families from Badimalika Municipality-6 of Bajura, following incessant rainfall late Friday night.

According to local Lalsingh Saud, a mudslide in the upper course of the stream blocked the water flow, forming a lake. The accumulated water later burst and triggered a major flood along the border of wards 6 and 8 of Badimalika Municipality. Saud said the flood forced the locals to flee their homes.
Though the flood caused no human casualties, it has brought a serious crisis to the locals- deprivation of food and shelters. It is said additional 18 families are at risk of further disaster and related consequences.
According to the acting ward chair of the Badimalika Municipality-6, a total of 41 families have been affected by the flood. Paddy fields in the area have also been severely damaged, with large stretches of farmland buried in the mud and debris.
This is not the first time that the Badimalika locals have borne the brunt of the flooding. A flood in the Budiganga River on August 9, 2020 had swept away a large section of arable land in the area, causing significant damage to local farmland.
