Nepal Telecom extends free services in flood-hit areas until further notice
Kathmandu: Nepal Telecom has extended its free voice, data and SMS services in areas affected by floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems until further notice.
The company had earlier announced free voice calls, two gigabytes of data and 50 SMS messages per day until August 30.
Nepal Telecom spokesperson Kamal Lamichhane said the free services have been extended to facilitate relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.
People in the flood-hit areas have been urged to use the services only as needed.
The floods damaged telecommunications infrastructure in several areas. Nepal Telecom said its technical teams are working to restore regular services as soon as possible.
The company said most of the damaged infrastructure in the affected areas has already been restored, while efforts are underway to bring the remaining structures back into operation at the earliest.
