Kathmandu, August 28: US President Donald Trump has pledged to provide Nepal with whatever assistance it needs following the devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River that left several people missing and caused widespread destruction.

According to NBC News, Trump said the United States has been in contact with Nepali officials and is prepared to extend further support as rescue and relief efforts continue.

“We’ve called Nepal, and we’ve offered any help that they need,” Trump was quoted as saying. He also acknowledged that a number of US citizens remain missing in the aftermath of the disaster.

The US government has already announced an initial relief package for flood-affected communities. On Thursday, the US State Department said it would provide $500,000 in humanitarian assistance through a global award with Catholic Relief Services.

The funding will support emergency shelter, essential relief supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene services for communities affected by the floods, according to the US Embassy in Kathmandu.

The assistance comes as authorities in Nepal continue search, rescue and relief operations in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi flash floods.
