Foreign Minister Khanal to lead Nepali delegation to NAM Commemorative Meeting in Belgrade

KATHMANDU, Aug 23 — Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal will lead a three-member Nepali delegation to attend a high-level commemorative meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, Serbia.
The meeting, scheduled for August 31 and September 1 (Bhadra 15 and 16), marks the 65th anniversary of the first NAM Summit, which was also hosted in Belgrade in 1961.
Nepal’s Cabinet approved the delegation’s participation on August 11 (Saun 26). Foreign Minister Khanal is scheduled to depart for Serbia on the evening of August 30 (Bhadra 14) and return to Nepal on September 2 (Bhadra 17).
The Belgrade gathering will bring together world leaders, official delegates, and representatives from member states across the movement. Nepal has maintained non-alignment as a foundational pillar of its foreign policy—a principle enshrined in the country’s constitution—and has consistently engaged in NAM summits and ministerial meetings since the landmark Bandung Conference.
