Supply of sustainable, reliable power to customers becomes challenging: Minister Shrestha

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has mentioned that power transmission network would be expanded by maintaining balance between demand and supply to end the situation of electricity produced in the country going waste.

Speaking at the 41th anniversary of Nepal Electricity Authority, Minister Shrestha clarified that the ministry has clear action plan to end the situation of electricity being wasted and to maintain supply balance.

“We have been moving in the path of reducing foreign trade deficit by exporting surplus power to third market,” he added. “Earlier, there was a challenge to expand electricity access. But today a challenge has surfaced for sustainable and reliable supply of power to customers,” underlined the Energy Minister.

Minister Shrestha argued that replacement of old and dilapidated structures, capacity building, use of smart system, electricity leakage control, demand management and expansion of digital technology in service delivery have now become a necessity, not an option.

Stating that there is a need of a huge capital in building large-scale infrastructures, not only the investment of the government for broader development of energy sector, he stressed that projects would be forwarded at partnership of private sector, financial institutions, development partners and foreign investors.
