JICA seminar discusses Kathmandu Valley transport master plan
Kathmandu: The first seminar on JICA’s Kathmandu Valley Urban Transport System Master Plan Project has concluded, focusing on the development of a safe and sustainable transport system in the Valley.
Speaking at the seminar, National Planning Commission member Arjun Jung Thapa said the study would provide a foundation for a long-term urban transport plan to address growing traffic congestion.
Officials said the proposed master plan aims to improve public transport services, restructure transport routes, strengthen traffic management and expand urban road infrastructure while promoting environmentally friendly transport.
According to JICA officials, the plan also focuses on easing traffic pressure within the Ring Road, improving connectivity outside the Ring Road, enhancing disaster preparedness and reducing traffic accidents through safer road infrastructure.
