Government focused on achieving economic prosperity: Foreign Minister Khanal

August 4, Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal stated on Tuesday that the government is actively working toward economic prosperity, identifying international aid and trade as fundamental pillars for achieving national growth.

Addressing an interaction organized by the Economic Diplomacy Division under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Minister Khanal emphasized the need to expand Nepal’s participation and maximize tangible benefits from global trade and development assistance. He noted that despite enjoying duty-free access as a Least Developed Country (LDC), Nepal has failed to leverage these concessions effectively, calling for a thorough review of past missed opportunities.

Highlighting the realities of the current geopolitical climate, Minister Khanal stressed that Nepal must establish clear, focused priorities rather than spreading limited resources across too many sectors. He urged Nepali diplomatic missions abroad to align their operational targets with strategic economic goals, adding that global political influence in the modern era is inextricably linked to economic strength.

The event, attended by former ambassadors and senior diplomats from the Association of Former Career Ambassadors of Nepal (AFCAN), featured paper presentations on international aid and trade by former Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya and former Ambassador Deepak Dhital, respectively.
