Sunsari incident: Two more members in investigation committee

Kathmandu: The government has incorporated two more members to the committee formed to investigate the Sunsari incident.

The secretary-level decision at the Home Ministry appointed Inspector of Police, Dipesh Awasthi, and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohan Singh Dhami, as the members so that they could also look after the ballistic and forensic issues, according to Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle.

The government had formed a five-member committee under the coordination of Joint Secretary at Home Ministry, Bhupendra Thapa, on Monday to conduct a probe into the incident. The Ministry has directed the probe committee to submit its report as soon as possible.

“The Ministry has also begun homework to obviate incidents of a similar nature in other places. For this, the Ministry is establishing coordination through the Chief District Officer so that peace, order and mutual harmony could be maintained in Banke, Kapilvastu, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and other districts,” Kafle said.

Security monitoring and coordination have been beefed up in these areas. A thorough review of the district-wise security situation was also held in the presence of the Home Minister, secretaries and heads of security bodies.

The Ministry has prioritised dialogue to resolve the Sunsari problem and stated that the situation was gradually returning to normal in other sensitive areas, including Debanganj of Sunsari.
