State mechanisms all prepared for monsoon-induced disaster management

Kathmandu: A secretary-level meeting held on Monday has decided to remain ready for the management of monsoon-induced disasters.

The meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki decided that all government bodies and security agencies will remain in a ready position for effective management of crises, including monsoon-induced disasters or a pandemic.

It has decided to ensure human resources, budget, relief materials and technical assistance and mobilise them in a coordinated fashion. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has also stated that disaster risk recovery and preparedness efforts were intensified in the wake of possible risks of heavy rain, flooding, landslide and inundation in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative, Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed the officials of the District Coordination Committee and local governments to mandatorily appear at their offices amid rising risks of monsoon-induced disasters, including flooding and landslides.

The Ministry has also directed those officials on leave to join their offices soon and discharge their duty as well as perform an active role in coordination, facilitation and decision-making processes during the time of disasters.
