Paddy Plantation Reaches 58 Percent in Gorkha as Monsoon Boosts Farming
Gorkha, July 14: Paddy transplantation has gathered momentum in Gorkha following active monsoon rains, with more than half of this season’s cultivation already completed.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office, farmers have transplanted paddy on 58 percent of the targeted 10,500 hectares of farmland so far.
Information Officer Suman Bhattarai said paddy transplantation had reached only 45 percent by mid-July in the previous fiscal year. He expressed confidence that the remaining work would be completed within the next few days if favorable weather continues.
The office expects overall paddy transplantation in the district to reach around 95 percent this season.
Major rice-growing areas in Gorkha include Daraudi, Sirdiphant, Sheraphant, Jyadulphant, Tariphant, Darubungphant and Borlangphant. Paddy is also cultivated in the district’s hilly and high-hill regions, including Chumnubri in the northern belt.
