Monsoon Trough Shifts North; Heavy Rainfall Likely in Multiple Provinces

Kathmandu: The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of its average location near the southern part of Nepal, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department said the weather is generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, while isolated light to moderate rain has also been reported in Madhesh Province.

The weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy throughout the day. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the Hilly region, a few places in the Himalayan and Terai regions, and there is also a possibility of light snowfall in the high Himalayan areas.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as in the Hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces and parts of Madhesh Province.

Tonight, the weather is forecast to remain generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected at a few places in the Himalayan region, many places in the Hilly region, and a few places in the Terai. Light snowfall is also possible in the high Himalayan areas.

The Department has urged the public, particularly those living in areas vulnerable to floods, landslides and inundation, to remain alert as heavy rainfall may affect daily life, transportation and other activities.
