Pakistan Embassy honours winners of essay, speech competitions in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 20: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu on Tuesday organized the award distribution ceremonies of the 13th Annual Ambassador of Pakistan Essay Writing Competition and the 9th Annual Ambassador of Pakistan Speech Competition-2026.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H Hashmi, attended the programme as the chief guest.

This year’s essay competition was dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Students wrote essays on the topic: “Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah mainstreaming the demand for Pakistan through constitutional means.”

Pratik Pokhrel from Viswa Niketan Secondary School, Kathmandu secured the first position, while Dakshesh Ghimire from Chand Bagh School, Kathmandu stood second and Nitin Thapa from Pranjali World School, Kathmandu secured the third position. The winners received certificates and cash prizes. Twelve other outstanding participants were also honoured with special cash prizes and certificates.

Similarly, higher secondary and tertiary-level students delivered speeches on the topic: “Will AI Engulf Libraries?”

Vishwakala Nepal from Reliance College, Kathmandu secured the first position in the speech competition. Tshiring Tamang from National Law College, Kathmandu stood second, while Bipyum Chaulagain from St. Xavier College, Maitighar secured the third position. The winners were presented with certificates and cash prizes, while the remaining 12 participants also received certificates and cash awards.

According to the embassy, students from more than 50 higher secondary schools and universities across Nepal participated in the two competitions. The events were conducted in phases over the past two weeks before culminating in Wednesday’s final ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Hashmi appreciated the students for their critical thinking and active engagement on important contemporary and historical issues. He also praised participants for reflecting on constitutionalism and the role of Quaid-e-Azam in the creation of Pakistan, stating that such initiatives help strengthen understanding and people-to-people ties between Nepal and Pakistan.

The embassy said the essay and speech competitions, organized continuously for the last 13 and nine years respectively, have become increasingly popular among Nepali youth and continue to attract talented students from across the country.
