46 Businesses Face Action During Tokha Market Inspection
Tokha Municipality has taken action against 46 businesses during a market monitoring drive aimed at protecting consumer rights and improving market management.
According to the municipality, surprise inspections were carried out across all 11 wards starting May 8. The monitoring team included representatives from the municipality, Metropolitan Police Force, Central Veterinary Disease Investigation Laboratory, Veterinary Standards and Drug Regulatory Laboratory, Livestock Service Office, Tokha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Consumer Rights Protection Forum.
Chief Administrative Officer Kamal Bhattarai said many businesses were found operating without proper registration or renewed permits.
During the inspections, authorities found several violations, including the absence of price lists, the sale of expired products, poor hygiene in meat shops, and failure to meet minimum operating standards.
The municipality said 39 businesses, including fish and meat shops, dairy stores, veterinary medicine shops, handicraft businesses, and grocery stores, were issued warnings.
Under the Tokha Municipality Market Monitoring Directives-2075 BS, six businesses were fined between Rs 1,000 and Rs 50,000, while one shop was shut down.
