7th National Climate Conference concludes, focus on policy implementation
Lumbini, April 24: The 7th National Conference on climate change concluded in Lamahi of Dang district on Thursday, with experts and stakeholders stressing the need for effective implementation of climate policies at the local level.
Speakers at the conference called for stronger coordination among federal, provincial and local governments to expand climate adaptation programmes in communities and reduce climate-related risks. They also emphasised making local governments and communities more active in climate response efforts.
Held under the theme “Bridging Policy and Practice: Harmonising Climate Governance”, the conference brought together government officials, policymakers, researchers and development partners. Participants highlighted the need to narrow the gap between climate policies and their implementation.
Inaugurating the event, Lumbini Province’s Minister for Forest and Environment Dev Karan Prasad Kalawar stressed the importance of expanding community-based adaptation programmes to minimise the impacts of climate change.
Similarly, Vice Chairperson of the Lumbini Province Planning Commission Dr Dilliraj Aryal said climate change is a cross-cutting issue, adding that Nepal is facing its impacts despite having minimal contribution to global carbon emissions.
