Three Firms Fined for Breaching Business Code in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, April 8 – The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumers’ Rights has imposed fines on three firms for violating business codes and consumer rights during a recent market inspection.

Shankar Grocery and MDR Confectionery in Kuleshwor were each fined Rs 20,000, while Gupta Gudpak, a confectionery shop in Gongabu, was fined Rs 5,000, in accordance with the Consumers Protection Act, 2075.

The market monitoring covered 39 stores, of which 36 were instructed to correct their business practices to comply with consumer rights. The inspection team included representatives from the Department, consumer rights advocates, and local authorities.

The Department has emphasised that such market monitoring is a regular exercise to ensure compliance with business codes and protect consumer interests.
