Rights Defenders Urge State Action to Prevent Human Rights Violations
Biratnagar, April 4: Human rights defenders have called on the government to take concrete steps to prevent rights violations by enacting necessary laws, formulating effective policies, ensuring adequate budget allocation, and promoting direct community participation.
Speaking at a programme organised by Feminist Dalit Organisation (FEDO) and Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) in Biratnagar, participants stressed that as long as discrimination persists in society, human rights violations will continue.
Coordinator of INSEC Koshi Province, Manohar Pokharel, highlighted the need to strengthen the role of human rights defenders amid ongoing discriminatory practices.
Similarly, FEDO programme coordinator Nara Bahadur Aauji warned that rising inequality and discrimination could slow the pace of development and prosperity.
On the occasion, Devi Baskota, coordinator of the Koshi Province-level Human Rights Defenders Network, elaborated on the objectives and significance of the programme, while FEDO Morang President Sharmila Pariyar welcomed participants, including network officials and members.
Established in 1994, FEDO is a leading organisation advocating for Dalit and women’s rights, focusing on gender equality and social inclusion, with Dalit women at the centre of its initiatives.
