Revenue, expenditure both lag behind target

February 13, Kathmandu: The government’s revenue collection and expenditure have both remained below target in the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83).

According to the Financial Comptroller General Office, total expenditure as of mid-February stands at 40.8 percent of the annual allocation. Of the Rs 1.964 trillion budget earmarked for the fiscal year, Rs 801.37 billion has been spent so far.

Under the recurrent heading, Rs 562.37 billion has been spent, accounting for 47.62 percent of the allocated Rs 1.180 trillion. Capital expenditure remains significantly low at 15.62 percent, with Rs 63.72 billion spent out of the allocated Rs 407.88 billion. Spending under the financial management heading has reached 46.71 percent.

Revenue collection has also fallen short of expectations. Of the targeted Rs 1.533 trillion for the fiscal year, only 44.49 percent — equivalent to Rs 682.16 billion — has been mobilized so far.

Foreign grants have reached just 24.02 percent of the annual target.
