Imports Resume at Rasuwagadhi Border as Trade with China Picks Up
Rasuwa, Jan 4: Following the reopening of the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint, imports from China have resumed in full swing.
According to the Border Security Post Rasuwagadhi, 18 electric vehicles (EV microbuses) entered Nepal on Saturday—the first batch of such vehicles in the current fiscal year—and are now parked at Timure as importers work to pay the required customs revenue.
On the same day, 39 cargo containers carrying apples, ready-made garments, garlic, vehicle parts, walnuts, batteries, and medical supplies crossed into Nepal. Thakur Gautam, spokesperson for the Customs Office, said that since the border reopened last Thursday, a total of 96 containers have entered the country. He added that perishable goods like apples and walnuts are being prioritized for inspection and clearance, while inspections for ready-made items began on Saturday.
The Customs Office also collected Rs 90.87 million in revenue in the first two days of resumed operations.
The Rasuwagadhi-Nepal border had remained closed since July last year after floods destroyed the Miteri Bridge. The Chinese side has now constructed a bailey bridge, allowing the checkpoint to resume regular operations.
