UML Recommends Chair Oli as HoR Candidate from Jhapa-5

Jhapa, Jan 3: With the House of Representatives election drawing closer, the CPN (UML) has unanimously recommended party chairperson and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli as its candidate from Jhapa Constituency No. 5.

District chair Prem Giri said the decision was endorsed by a meeting of the party’s regional committee held on Friday. Jhapa-5 is regarded as Oli’s home constituency, from where he has won parliamentary elections multiple times, including in 1991, 1994, 1999, 2013, 2017 and 2022. Although he faced defeat in the first Constituent Assembly election in 2003 BS, he later secured victory from the same constituency in the second CA election in 2007 BS.

Meanwhile, three names have been proposed for Jhapa Constituency No. 4 for the upcoming March 5 election. According to Giri, Lal Bahadur Sawa Limbu, Hira Thapa and Bhojakumari Nepal were recommended by the district committee and approved by the regional meeting.

Jhapa district has five parliamentary constituencies. Giri added that candidate recommendations for constituencies No. 1, 2 and 3 are likely to be announced by Sunday. The party has instructed that three candidates, including at least one woman, be proposed from each constituency.
