Communications Minister Hails Bharatpur as Nepal’s Central City

Chitwan, Jan 2 — Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has described Bharatpur as having emerged as the country’s central city.

Addressing the Bharatpur Conclave on Friday, Minister Kharel said the city has grown beyond its traditional identity to become a key hub for tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, health services, and education. He credited sustained leadership and long-term planning for the transformation.

The minister praised Mayor Renu Dahal for her role in driving Bharatpur’s development, noting that significant progress was achieved during her eight-year tenure. “Bharatpur would not have reached this level of development if the mayor had served for only nine months,” he said, underscoring the importance of political stability for national progress.

Minister Kharel also remarked that Bharatpur offers an example for understanding why development has lagged elsewhere in the country, reiterating the need for stable governance.

On a separate note, he reaffirmed that the election to the House of Representatives will be held on March 5, urging the public not to be misled by speculation or confusion.
