Singer and Actor Prashant Tamang Passes Away
Kathmandu, Jan 11 — Renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang passed away due to cardiac arrest on Sunday morning. He was 42.
The sudden demise of Tamang has sent shockwaves through Nepali-speaking communities around the world, including Darjeeling, India, his birthplace. Widely admired for his talent and humility, Tamang rose to international fame after winning the third season of the popular Indian television reality show Indian Idol, a milestone that earned him immense popularity among Nepali-speaking audiences.
Beyond singing, Tamang also established himself as a successful actor in Nepali cinema. He made his entry into the film industry as a playback singer with the movie Himmat-2 and later began his acting career with Gorkha Paltan, in which he played a significant role. His performances on screen were as well received as his music.
Following his passing, several artists paid tribute to the late singer-actor. Nepali actress Keki Adhikari expressed her heartfelt condolences through social media, recalling her time working with Tamang as deeply memorable. She fondly remembered modeling in the song Manshaili, sung by Tamang, and said she continues to cherish those moments. Adhikari also reminisced about their collaboration in the film Pardeshi-2, noting that Tamang’s warm smile remains vivid in her memory.
Similarly, artist Deepashree Niraula remembered Tamang by sharing old photographs with him on social media. She praised not only his singing and acting skills but also his friendly and kind nature, saying he would always be remembered for both his talent and his humanity.
