Goddess idol worship rituals begin in Mithila from today

Jaleshwar (Mahottari), Sept 29: The customary worship of Goddess Durga Bhawani’s idols has begun in Mithila, including Mahottari, from today after the unveiling of the idol on the seventh day of Bada Dashain.

In temples across every district and village of Terai-Madhes, including Mahottari, where Durga idols have been made, devotees are currently thronging to perform rituals to worship Goddess Durga Bhawani. Men and women, according to their own family traditions, are now lined up in Durga temples with all items required for decoration, such as clothing, jewelry, fruits, sweets, coconut, betel leaves, and are performing rituals to worship Goddess Bhawani.

Sudish Sah, a devotee from Jaleshwar-2, mentioned that worshiping Goddess Durga Bhawani’s idol during Bada Dashain is believed to bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to the household. According to him, during the festival of Bada Dashain, the worship of the idol of Goddess Durga Bhawani holds special significance in the Mithila region.

Therefore, in this Mithila region, all household members, including women and men, strictly perform the worship of Goddess Durga Bhawani. Cultural expert Dhruba Raya from Jaleshwar-5 explained that in the Mithila region, worshiping the idol of Goddess Durga Bhawani is believed to bring relief to the afflicted, children to the childless, fortune to the unlucky, and wealth to the poor.
