Israeli Ambassador dismisses Hamas ‘Farewell Photo’ including Nepali hostage Joshi as blackmail

September 26, Kathmandu: Israeli Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass has stated that a recent “farewell photo” released by Hamas, featuring Nepali student Bipin Joshi and other captives, is a blatant blackmail tactic. Joshi has been held captive since the group’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu on Thursday, Ambassador Bass claimed Hamas is resorting to such measures because Israeli forces now control approximately 80% of Gaza, including Gaza City, leaving the group cornered. Bass added that not all of the remaining hostages may be alive, further underscoring the ploy’s intent to manipulate and instill fear.

Bass reiterated Israel’s commitment to freeing all hostages, including Joshi.

The Ambassador also rejected reports of famine or starvation in Gaza, insisting that Israel ensure aid deliveries while accusing Hamas of diverting resources from civilians.

The photo labeled all hostages as “Ron Arad,” a provocative reference to the Israeli Air Force navigator captured by the Amal Movement in Lebanon in 1986 and later transferred to Hezbollah, whose fate remains unknown, aiming to exploit historical sensitivities and pressure Israel.
