Make public service effective: NC President Deuba
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has viewed civil employees much bear special responsibility to provide public service smoothly and effectively, which is imperative for good governance.
Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of the 35th establishment day of Nepal Civil Employees’ Union here Thursday, NC President Deuba argued civil service requires reforms as per spirit of democratic changes.
‘Trade unions can play a vital role in making civil service efficient. The past mistakes should not be repeated,’ he added. He further said the civil servant can be unified under the leadership of union. The well-wisher organizations of the NC have played its part in policy making, according to Deuba.
Moreover, the former Prime Minister sought creative and constructive suggestion from the civil employees so that actionable policies and laws can be realized. Good governance is equally a major pillar of democratic system and development, so the trade unions are required to pay heed to it, he suggested.
The NC President vowed his party would always extend cooperation for the rights of civil servants. Honesty and devotion with professional integrity earns image of trust in bureaucracy, Deuba reminded.
On the occasion, Acting Chairman of the Union, Uttam Kumar Katuwal, said current federal civil service bill could be finalized by correcting its weaknesses. The Employees’ Union was always playing a creative role for fostering good governance and delivering public service.
‘Karmachari’ a book published by the Union was released by President Deuba on the occasion. Various 42 civil servants including outgoing Chair Gopal Prasad Pokharel, and Under Secretary DipakRegmi were honoured on the occasion.
