Speaker Ghimire lauds former lawmakers’ role
Kathmandu: Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire has said the former lawmakers played an incomparable role for establishing democracy, constitution writing and parliament’s journey.
In his address to a programme organized on the occasion of the 26th establishment day of Ex-Lawmakers’ Forum Nepal at federal parliament on Thursday, Speaker Ghimire argued the lawmakers had played their part in political transformation in Nepal.
‘Former lawmakers are integral parts of national life. Their contribution is beyond assessment. But, they are reportedly deprived of basic service like health facility, which is worrying indeed,’ he said, sharing information that parliament was making efforts to ease their access to health service.
He wished good health and wellbeing to the former parliamentarians. On the occasion, Deputy Speaker Indira Ranamagar also stressed on the need of bringing a clear policy for special protection of the former parliamentarians that ensures health service, residence and social security.
Various former parliamentarians were honoured at the programme. Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, said time has come for the safety schemes to the former lawmakers considering their contribution to political transformation, democratic movements and constitution writing.
Former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat, former chairman of the Forum, Omkar Prasad Shrestha, vice chairman Govinda Bahadur Shah, Ghanendra Basnet, among others said the respect accorded to the former lawmakers is the respect to the people and country. The Forum is an association of former lawmakers voicing for their rights for 26 years in Nepal.
