Journalism in mother language enables exercise of freedom of expression and the press-Speaker
Kathmandu, July 25: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire has said journalism in mother language would enable the exercise of freedom of expression and the press.
Receiving a report of the conference of the international mother language journalism, submitted by a delegation of Newa Journalist National Dabu, on Thursday, he said, “”In a multi-ethnic, multilingual country, the role of journalism in the mother language is crucial for promoting ownership of everyone to the state and federalism”. This conference has highlighted the role of media in nurturing ownership to that end.
Ghimire expressed his commitment to take initive to implement the findings and discussion raised during the conference into law-making and the state’s behavior. ‘The conference you have conducted with the participation of domestic and foreign journalists has its own significance and uniqueness. I will provide full support to implement the conclusions derived from it,’ he said.
National Press Club organized the conference on ‘Journalism for the Protection of the Mother Language’ on June13-14. Journalists from various provinces of Bangladesh, India, and Nepal participated in the conference. The conference drew several conclusions about the importance and necessity of mother language journalism in the development of inclusive media industry and the overall development of journalism.
In a meeting held at the Speaker’s office in Singhadurbar, central President of National Dabu Nripendralal Shrestha, senior vice president Sunil Maharjan, and general secretary KK Manandhar were present.
