Cabinet approves key decisions on healthcare and international engagements
July 23, Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has unveiled recent cabinet decisions, including the implementation of a bone marrow transplant medical centre agreement with China at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan.
Communications Minister and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that the cabinet has approved the signing of a transfer letter for the project, formalised during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China.
This initiative, supported by Chinese financial assistance, aims to establish a four-bed bone marrow transplant unit to treat blood cancers like leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, reducing the need for Nepali patients to seek treatment abroad.
The project, estimated at Rs 110 million, follows a survey and draft submission to the Chinese government, with implementation now underway.
The cabinet also approved forming a negotiation team led by a Finance Ministry Joint Secretary to accept a $10 million World Bank grant for public finance projects.
Additionally, the Council of Ministers permitted Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikarito to attend a program in Ethiopia on July 27–28, and State Minister for Forest and Environment Rupa BK was approved to participate in the Convention on Wetlands in Zimbabwe from July 22–30.
