Creating employment opportunities for youth at home is the government’s priority: PM Oli
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that creating employment opportunities within the country is a top priority of the government. He emphasized the need to retain youth in Nepal and mobilize the capital, skills, and experience of returnees from foreign employment in productive sectors.
Responding to questions from parliamentarians during a session of the House of Representatives today, Prime Minister Oli stated that the government has declared the decade from 2082 BS to 2092 BS as the “Decade for Promoting Domestic Employment.”
He said significant employment opportunities are being generated in key sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, energy, and infrastructure development, thanks to substantial investments from both the government and private sector. The government, he added, has decided to restructure the Prime Minister’s Employment Program into a broader national employment promotion initiative, with a stronger focus on skills development and job creation.
“Currently, a reintegration and entrepreneurship promotion program is being implemented in 20 municipalities across Koshi and Madhes provinces under the REMI project. This targets youth who have returned from foreign employment,” he said. “Additionally, entrepreneurship development initiatives are underway through start-up and innovation programs, especially focusing on the Gen G generation.”
Prime Minister Oli also reiterated his firm stance against corruption, stating that serious corruption cases supported by evidence will not be tolerated. At the same time, he said the government will not take action based solely on unverified allegations.
