Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee discusses amendments to Bar Council Bill

July 16, Kathmandu: The Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee of Nepal’s House of Representatives held a meeting today to discuss amendments to the Nepal Bar Council Second Amendment Bill. Lawmakers, including Damodar Bhandari, Bimala Subedi, and Suryaprasad Dhakal, presented their proposed changes.

The lawmakers suggested that senior lawyers must have 25 years of professional experience. They also emphasised inclusive representation in the Bar Council, including women, Dalits, Janajatis, and Madhesis.

Additionally, they proposed that government employees seeking a lawyer’s license should submit a written application to the council before the examination, declaring their employment status. The committee also sought recommendations from the Nepal Law Commission regarding the bill.

The discussions aim to strengthen the legal framework and ensure fair representation in the legal profession.
