President Paudel: Constitution and Republic linked to people’s prosperity
June 18, Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasised that improving the living standards of the people and achieving national prosperity are the core objectives of Nepal’s Constitution and federal democratic republic. Speaking at the Pushpalal National Award 2025 distribution ceremony, he highlighted that the republic was established through the struggles and sacrifices of past leaders and the Nepali people.
Paudel stressed that effective governance, efficient service delivery, and optimal utilisation of resources are essential to achieving the goals set by the Constitution and democracy. He noted that fulfilling these objectives would be a true tribute to the leaders who dedicated their lives to the democratic cause.
Reflecting on Pushpalal’s contributions, the President described him as a visionary leader who analysed Nepal’s economic structure, class dynamics, and societal contradictions with precision. Despite being rooted in Marxist principles and class struggle, Pushpalal firmly believed that all issues could be resolved through democratic processes, setting him apart as a distinctive communist leader.
Paudel further noted that Pushpalal’s ideology laid a crucial foundation for transforming Nepali communists into advocates of democratic processes, a vision validated by the political changes of 1990. He also referenced subsequent ideological developments, such as Madan Bhandari’s concept of multi-party democracy, which gained prominence, while other competing ideologies faded.
During the ceremony, President Paudel honoured Shanta Manavi for contributions to politics, Dr. Medini Prasad Sedai for history, and Ram Mani Pokharel for literature.
