Land Problem Settlement Commission updates PM Oli on landless squatter identification efforts
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held discussions today with officials of the Land Problem Settlement Commission at his residence in Baluwatar to review progress on identifying and addressing the needs of landless Dalits, squatters, and unorganized settlers.
The commission briefed the Prime Minister on its ongoing work, being conducted in coordination with all three tiers of government. This includes data collection, verification, surveying, mapping, dispute resolution, and the distribution of land ownership certificates.
Commission Chair Hari Prasad Rijal, speaking alongside Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Balram Adhikari, explained that criteria have been established to identify landless individuals—those who have not received government housing or land in the past 10 years. Unorganized settlers are defined as those living on government, public, or private land for at least a decade.
Officials emphasized that the pending bill to amend various land-related acts, currently under parliamentary consideration, will ease implementation. Prime Minister Oli expressed hope for its early passage and instructed the commission to carry out its responsibilities in a systematic and timely manner.
The Land Problem Resolution Commission was formed by the Government of Nepal on October 30 last year.
