Broadcasting news in mother language helps translate federalism spirit into practice: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that Public Broadcasting Service PSB has moved forward so that Karnali can not only be heard but also seen.

 

Inaugurating the Karnali Bureau Office of Nepal Television in Birendranagar, Surkhet today and launching Khas language news from Radio Nepal, Minister Gurung said that through the public broadcasting service, Nepal Television and Radio Nepal are becoming more people-centric.

The Communication Minister said PSB has taken the responsibility of listening to and showing various activities of Karnali Province through radio, along with television, keeping the people as the priority.

At the program, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yamalal Kandel expressed his gratitude to the Nepal Government, along with PSB, for launching Khas language news from Radio Nepal and launching Karnali at the centre.

The Chief Minister urged the federal government to support further digitalisation of Karnali, keeping in mind the geography of Karnali.

He said that the federal government would give special priority to Karnali, the birthplace of the endangered Khas language, and send a positive message.

At the program, Public Broadcasting Service Nepal Chairman Mahendra Bista said there is a need for support from all three levels of government to make the people-centered public broadcasting service reliable and strong.

At the program, Karnali Province Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Rajiv Bikram Shah and Birendranagar Municipality Mayor Mohan Maya Dhakal expressed their best wishes for the inauguration of Nepal Television’s Karnali Bureau Office and the launch of Khas language news from Radio Nepal.

The program was attended by Radhika Aryal, Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and distinguished figures from the federal and provincial governments.
