Indian Power Minister arrives in Kathmandu for two-day visit
April 22, Kathmandu: India’s Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.
Upon arrival, Minister Khattar departed for Sankhuwasabha district to inspect the power house and dam site of the Arun III Hydropower Project. The 900-megawatt project, under construction in Makalu Rural Municipality with an investment of 104 billion rupees from India, was jointly inaugurated in 2018 by then-Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Energy Ministry spokesperson Sandeep Kumar Dev shared details of the visit.
Later today, Minister Khattar will participate in a signing ceremony in Kathmandu for agreements related to the Lamki-Bareilly and Inaruwa-Purnia transmission lines, a joint venture between Nepal and India, according to the Energy Ministry.
During his visit, Khattar is scheduled to hold courtesy meetings with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh. Additionally, the Indian minister will undertake a religious tour to Mustang and Pashupatinath, as confirmed by spokesperson Dev.
