Lawmakers urge government not to grant NOC to KIIT in Odisha, India

Kathmandu: In today’s meeting of the National Assembly, lawmakers urged the government not to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India.

Most members speaking during the emergency session raised concerns following the recent deaths of Nepali students abroad. They highlighted the tragic case of Prisha Sah from Birgunj, a student at KIIT University, and Sushan Oli from Rukum West, who had gone to the UK for studies.

Lawmakers also demanded an impartial investigation into the alleged suicides of two Nepali students—Prakriti Lamsal and Prisha Sah—both of whom were found dead in the hostel of KIIT University within a span of three months.

Additionally, MPs expressed serious concern over the death of Sushan Oli, whose body was discovered on the bank of a river in the UK. They stressed the urgent need to ensure the safety of Nepali students studying abroad.

The lawmakers called on the government to brief Parliament on the status of the investigation into the death of Prakriti Lamsal, who was found dead at KIIT University around three months ago.
