Lamichhane elected Prez, Giree Vice-Prez of Social Workers’ Association Nepal (SWAN)
April 12, Kathmandu: The Social Workers’ Association Nepal (SWAN) successfully concluded its Annual General Assembly and Fifth Convention on Saturday, electing a new leadership team.
SWAN, the official Nepali affiliate of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), represents professional social workers globally with at least a bachelor’s degree in social work from recognized universities.
Established in 2013, SWAN announced Pratik Sharma Lamichhane as its fourth president during the convention. Lamichhane is an assistant professor of social work at Tribhuvan University and a PhD scholar. Similarly, Saroj Giree, an assistant professor and PhD candidate in social work at Tribhuvan University, was elected vice-president.
Sudip Lama Waiva was elected general secretary, Pragati Khadka as secretary, and Rajeshman Singh Shrestha as treasurer. The seven-member executive committee also includes Sunita Bisunkhi and Anima Shrestha as elected members.
The convention, held at the premises of St. Lawrence College, was chaired by outgoing president Sukrita Rai, with SWAN’s founding president, Dr. Dilliram Adhikari, as the chief guest. The election committee, led by Sabin Neupane and supported by member Gautam Dhimal, formally announced the newly elected executive committee.
SWAN continues to promote professional social work, education, and practice to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities in Nepal, aligning with its mission as a member of IFSW since 2017.
