Prime Minister Karki pays tribute to Bipin Joshi
Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has paid tribute to Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, whose body was brought to Kathmandu from Israel at 2:35 p.m. today.
At a condolence ceremony organized at Tribhuvan International Airport, Prime Minister Karki offered heartfelt condolences and extended prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul. She also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The ceremony was attended by Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Kulman Ghising, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass, and other distinguished officials.
Joshi’s body is being flown to Dhangadhi today and will be taken to his hometown in Kanchanpur for final rites. The body was repatriated from Israel with coordination between the Embassy of Nepal in Tel Aviv and the Israeli government.
Bipin Joshi was among the innocent Nepali students abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, attack in southern Israel. The Israeli government officially confirmed his death on October 14, 2025.
Ten Nepali students were killed in the same attack, while Joshi had been taken hostage in Gaza. The Government of Nepal had made continuous diplomatic efforts for his safe release. Further details regarding the case are available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
